**Rotunda | November 8, 2024–March 9, 2025**

This fall, the Guggenheim New York invites you to immerse yourself in "Harmony and Dissonance: Orphism in Paris, 1910–1930," the first comprehensive exploration of Orphism. This revolutionary movement arose in Paris in the early 1910s, when modernity transformed perceptions of time and space. The exhibition will showcase over 80 captivating artworks, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and rare ephemera, displayed across five levels of the museum’s iconic spiral rotunda.

Coined by poet Guillaume Apollinaire in 1912, "Orphism" describes a shift among artists moving beyond Cubism toward a vibrant, multisensory abstraction. Featured artists like Robert Delaunay, Sonia Delaunay, František Kupka, and Francis Picabia created stunning kaleidoscopic pieces that reflect the dynamism of modern life. Their works explore color theory and the rhythmic influences of popular music and dance, pushing the boundaries of abstraction to new heights.

In addition to the visual harmony and dissonance found in Orphist art, the exhibition will delve into the sociocultural connections forged by transnationalism, highlighting the interactions and tensions experienced by artists from diverse backgrounds who gathered in Paris.

Organized by Tracey Bashkoff, Senior Director of Collections and Senior Curator, and Vivien Greene, Senior Curator of 19th- and Early 20th-Century Art, with support from Curatorial Assistant Bellara Huang, this exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking experience that captures the essence of a transformative era in art history. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with Orphism’s rich legacy!
