Stephen Sanchez - Only Girl

Stephen Sanchez, a singer-songwriter from America, was born on November 3, 2002, in Eldorado, California. During his visits to his maternal grandparents' home, he would often spend a considerable amount of time exploring an old barn where he stumbled upon original vinyl records. His grandmother would send him to the barn in the mornings to search for vinyl records, which they would later enjoy listening to while she prepared breakfast. It was a memorable experience for him, and he developed a fondness for artists such as The Platters, the Ink Spots, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole. These musicians had a significant impact on him, particularly in regards to his songwriting, especially love songs.

"[Those artists] gave me a sense of direction as to how to fall in love with somebody and give my love to somebody," Sanchez says. "Love's this passionate fight, but it's also a surrender. Without that music, I wouldn't know that."

His exposure to oldies music had a profound effect on him, causing him to become more romantic and attribute that music as the reason for his transformation. It provided him with guidance on how to love and give affection. His belief is that love is both a passionate struggle and a surrender, and he credits music for his understanding of this.

Stephen Sanchez chose to pursue being a musician and gained popularity on TikTok due to his exceptional singing and songwriting capabilities. He has incorporated a vintage feel into his work, which has become his signature and propelled his success. One of his original songs posted on TikTok amassed over 1 million views, leading him to release it for fans to listen to.

“When you listen to those old records from the fifties and the sixties, they sound like they’re coming from another dimension,” he observes. “The songs were simple, but profound, romantic, and beautiful. It sparked a desire to write what I was hearing. To me, songwriting is like taking a memory and putting it in a projector for everyone to see.” ....... “I was going through plenty of life changes, first love, heartbreak, and all of that. I needed to talk about it from my perspective,” he adds.

Sanchez, who wrote every song on his debut EP, "What Was, Not Now," released the album in October 2021 after signing a deal with Republic Records and collaborating with producer Ian Fitchuk, who has previously worked with artists such as James Bay and Kacey Musgraves. The six-track album includes songs titled "Hold her While You Can," "Love Life," "Kayla," "The Pool," "I Want You," and "Until We Meet Again."

“Two years ago, I had a massive crush on a girl named Kayla,” he recalls. “She didn’t like me back, but I was determined to win her over. I wrote her this song, recorded it on GarageBand, sent it to her, but we weren’t destined to be together. Kayla was part of my life over the past year though, so the song had a place in this body of work.”

Stephen Christopher Sanchez, an up-and-coming artist, released his second extended play record, "Easy On My Eyes," on August 5, 2022, under Mercury Records/Republic Records. The announcement was made on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The EP consists of seven tracks, including "Hey Girl," "See The Light," "Mountain Peaks," "Please Don't Go Home Yet," "Easy On My Eyes," "Because Of You," and "Until I Found You."

Giving attention to the sides of those afraid to fall in love, those learning to trust in love, and those reflecting on what could’ve been done to change the ending. Love is human and as humans, we’ll never be perfect, even though it’s something we all strive for. For me, all of the pain humanizes love. There’s a balance in the music because of that.”

The song "Until I Found You" features the artist's girlfriend as a vocalist and has a doo-wop style with harmonies, guitar, tambourine, and chant. It was incredibly successful, appearing on popular Spotify playlists such as Retro Pop, big on the internet, goosebumps, and Pop Sauce, and reaching the top five on the Spotify Daily Viral Songs USA Chart and top ten on the Spotify Daily Viral Songs Global Chart. The song also reached #8 on the Apple Music Singer-Songwriter Chart and gained over 7 million streams worldwide in just a few months. Additionally, Amazon Music featured the song on Fresh Indie and Breakthrough Indie.

Evangeline - released January 25, 2023, was produced by Nick Lobel with writers include: Stephen Sanchez, Nick Lobel, Trent Dabbs, Bobby Russell. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he admitted the song was sampled from the 1968 track "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro.

“Once I heard that, I felt immediately inspired. The song came to life in 15 minutes,” the singer shared in a statement. “Sampling is not something I’ve ever done nor have I felt moved to pursue, but it was honestly a happy accident that day. Even the way I performed it was extremely new for me. This song really made music fun for me again. It’s opened a world and lore I’m excited to invite fans into.”

New track named "Only Girl" (released April 23, 2023), was first aired during his tour, and fans have been eagerly waiting for its release ever since. Co-written by Ian Fitchuk, Konrad Snyder, Stephen, and Stephen Day, the track is accompanied by a visualizer featuring the actress Frances O'Sullivan, who also appeared in the "Evangeline" visualizer.

On the song, Stephen Sanchez said, “‘Only Girl’ is a dialogue and sentiment between rival characters that appear in the universe behind my new music: The Troubadour Sanchez and a mysterious past love of Evangeline’s (seen in the lyric video). Both characters sing with the same heart–seeking to be with Evangeline in 1964. With ‘Only Girl,’ I want people to feel like they are part of the counterculture of 1964 when they listen to this new era of music. A counterculture that focused on love–I want to ingrain that theme of love into today’s world–a world that doesn’t have enough classic romance.”
