Album Review-Metro Booming's 'We Don't Trust You': Kendrick Lamar Beefing!

Let's consider the idea of embracing hidden features during the initial days after an album's release. It truly adds an exciting element to the whole experience. Trust me, if everything was unveiled before the album's reveal, the reactions would never be as genuine.

We Don't Trust You, the collaborative studio album by the talented American rapper Future and renowned record producer Metro Boomin, is a musical masterpiece. Released on March 22, 2024, this album showcases the incredible chemistry between these two artists.

Although a few tracks on the album lean towards the generic side, Metro Boomin's We Don't Trust You maintains his remarkable record of creating top-notch and captivating music. As someone who isn't typically a fan of trap, I've always made an exception for his music. He rarely disappoints me because his production style stands out from the rest, and this new album is no exception. From the very first listen, I was filled with joy; the beats are incredible, the dark atmosphere is consistently perfect, and there are tracks here that are truly unique. I believe he carries this album for the most part.

Shifting gears to the flip side of the coin, let's talk about Future's performance on this album. It's safe to say that he brings his A-game, showcasing a level of engagement and passion that is truly captivating. In fact, some of the verses and bars he delivers on this record might just be the pinnacle of his career thus far. However, I must admit that I was hoping for a bit more ‘diversity’. There are moments where his flow becomes repetitive and monotonous, reminiscent of 21 Savage and Drake. This seems to be a common thread throughout most of the songs. However, Future's effort on this album remains undeniably strong, and personally, I find myself thoroughly satisfied with the outcome.

Nevertheless, as the album unfolds, it begins to feel monotonous and slow-paced, mirroring Future's own delivery. Particularly towards the end, the lack of momentum and captivating elements in some songs becomes apparent. While there isn't a single track that disappoints, it would have been a more enjoyable and objectively superior album if they had trimmed it down to around 12 or 13 tracks.

Abel's vocals glow on Young Metro, Travis delivers his signature style on Type Shit (Carti's part was just okay) and Cinderella, Rick Ross effortlessly rides the beat of Everyday Hustle, but wow... KENDRICK ABSOLUTELY SLAYS IT ON LIKE THAT. The production, led by Metro himself and a team of exceptional producers including G Koop, Oz, , Dre Moon, Boi-1da, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Allen Ritter, Zaytoven, Doughboy, Lil 88, Wheezy, Southside and Mike Dean, is nothing short of phenomenal. Get ready to be blown away by the captivating sounds and infectious beats of We Don't Trust You

I could honestly. honestly, write a whole essay just on that track. His flow is mind-blowing over the hard-hitting beat, the lyrics are incredibly clever and he doesn't hold back on dissing Drake and J. Cole. Definitely one of the standout tracks of the year for me.

In general, this album may not be flawless, but it's undeniably a powerful collaboration between Metro (especially) and Future. The repetitive nature of some tracks might be a drawback, but overall, this project is still on fire. It's great to see these guys dominating the trap scene with their music.

WE DON’T TRUST YOU by Future and Metro Boomin is a solid collaboration that was definitely worth the wait. It's great to hear these two artists together again after so long. While there are some songs that feel a bit similar and Future's performance is typical, I can't say I was disappointed. However, I did expect a lot more from them. Thankfully, Metro's innovative production in the first half of the album and the impressive lineup of featured artists make up for any shortcomings in WE DON’T TRUST YOU.

In my opinion, I would give WE DON’T TRUST YOU a fair rating of 7 out of 10. There are definitely a few songs that I will find myself going back to, but as a complete package, there are also parts that could have been left out. If anything, this album has made me even more excited to hear what Future and Metro have in store for their next album in April. Will it have the same strengths and weaknesses as WE DON’T TRUST YOU? Or will it surpass it with even more impressive production and performances? Only time will tell, and I can't wait to find out.
