Police Currently Investigating the Brutal Stabbing of Daniel Mapes, aged 34: Investigators appeals to the general public for more information

Maryland State Police are currently looking into a homicide that took place earlier this month in Wicomico County.

 

The suspect, Trenee Gattis, 20, from Salisbury, Maryland, was apprehended by officers from the Salisbury Police Department at the scene. Gattis has been charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, concealment of a dangerous weapon, and reckless endangerment.

 

While the victim's death is being investigated, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is consulting with the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office regarding potential homicide charges. Gattis is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center without bond, based on the original charges.

 

On January 2nd, officers from the Salisbury Police Department responded to a stabbing report in the 800 block of South Division Street at around 6:30 a.m. They discovered the victim, Daniel Mapes, 34, from Salisbury, Maryland, with an apparent stab wound. Mapes was immediately taken to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland, where he unfortunately passed away on January 6th. It is worth noting that the suspect and the victim were acquainted.

 

The investigation into this homicide is being led by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Salisbury Police Department.
