Laurelle Monet Manley-Williams, of Glen Burnie, Has Been Sentenced For Theft Scheme: Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown Reveals

She falsified the claims by adding nonexistent or unrelated passengers, subsequently embezzling the claim benefit checks intended for these fictitious passengers, and depositing them into her personal bank account

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown revealed that Laurelle Monet Manley-Williams, aged 34 and hailing from Glen Burnie, Maryland, has been sentenced for one count of theft scheme, involving at least $25,000 but less than $100,000. Presiding over the case, the Honorable Charles Carey Deeley, Jr., a visiting judge in the Howard County Circuit Court, imposed a three-year incarceration term, with all but 60 days suspended. Upon completion of her sentence, Manley-Williams will undergo five years of supervised probation and is obligated to reimburse $35,405.23 to the victims.

Manley-Williams assumed the role of an insurance claims adjuster for the Agency Insurance Company (AIC) in July 2018. From late September to October 2018, she orchestrated a fraudulent scheme aimed at defrauding AIC by tampering with auto accident insurance claims she handled for the company.

She falsified the claims by adding nonexistent or unrelated passengers, subsequently embezzling the claim benefit checks intended for these fictitious passengers, and depositing them into her personal bank account. To cover her tracks, Manley-Williams later erased the fake passengers from AIC’s records. Before resigning in October 2018, she managed to pilfer $11,440.27 from AIC.

In November 2018, Manley-Williams secured a position as a claims adjuster at the Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance Company (Allstate). Shortly after commencing her role, she resorted to the same fraudulent scheme, fabricating claimants for the auto accident claims she processed.

This allowed her to siphon off a total of $23,964.96 from Allstate through checks and digital payments intended for the bogus passengers. All the ill-gotten gains were redirected to bank accounts under Manley-Williams' control. Allstate uncovered the deception during an internal audit in February 2019. The cumulative loss incurred by AIC and Allstate amounted to $35,405.23.
