"GOLDEN WATERLILLIES" - Open Edition Print by Robert Madden

Updated: Oct 26, 2022

Robert Madden shares "All of the original pieces are limited to a series of 10. Each piece is unique in content, as much of it is repaired or painted over once I've photographed it. It is all found the way you see it. I consider it to be Abstract Expressionism because what I photograph, I then remove from it's environment, creating an entirely new expression. I don't prep or add to any of my photographs. Out of devastating loss, homelessness and feeling untethered to anything, I found beauty in ordinary things, some would say, needed to be discarded, fixed. Intrigued how multiple, random encounters, by various forces, would come together over a period of time, to create an entirely independent, fanciful story, populated with creatures, characters and other beings, I felt compelled to share what I see. I wander into imagination, expanding my capacity to understand; Whatever one can imagine, exists! Worlds open to me through scratches, scrapes, dents, and smudges, in rust and decay and things tossed aside. This work excites me, stimulates me, causes me to think, laugh, even cry, connecting me emotionally to something I remember, or desire to experience or strive to be."
