Film Producer linked to Netflix hit Series "3 Body Problem" Given Death Sentence in Poisoning of Founder Chinese Gaming Company

After taking the pills, Lin felt unwell and admitted himself to the hospital. Initially, his condition seemed stable, but it took a sudden turn for the worse. Tragically, he passed away 10 days later on Christmas Day 2020, at the young age of 39.

Since its release last month, Netflix's series 3 Body Problem has captivated audiences worldwide, garnering millions of views. Surprisingly, even in China where Netflix is not available, the show has managed to find an vibrant following, sparking lively reviews among viewers.

However, amidst the excitement surrounding the series, fans of the original three-book series have been closely following a courtroom drama unfolding in Shanghai. Just a day after the show premiered, one of the key figures involved in its adaptation was sentenced to death.

According to BBC, the convicted individual, Xu Yao, was a renowned lawyer who played a crucial role in securing the Netflix deal in 2020. Tragically, he succumbed to professional jealousy after being sidelined by Lin Qi, the gaming tycoon and owner of Yoozoo Games, who is often referred to as China's "billionaire millennial." Lin Qi was the rightful owner of the film adaptation rights for the Chinese science fiction epic.

The court's verdict shed light on Xu Yao's motive for committing the heinous crime of murdering Lin Qi. It was a shocking turn of events that has left fans of the series both enthralled by the show's success and deeply saddened by the tragic real-life events that unfolded alongside it.

Within a few short months after this perceived offense, Lin tragically met his demise. The court, just last week, labeled the poisoning plot against him as both "premeditated" and "extremely despicable." This turn of events drew striking parallels for fans of The Three-Body Problem, a captivating tale set amidst China's Cultural Revolution and featuring an alien civilization.

Initially, Lin and Xu enjoyed a harmonious relationship. Lin entrusted Xu with the responsibility of leading a subsidiary named The Three Body Universe, just a year after Xu joined Yoozoo as the company's chief risk officer in 2017.

Their collaboration revolved around securing intellectual property rights for the film adaptations, and they worked closely together to broker the deal that would bring the novel to life as a Netflix original series.

According to local reports, there was a falling out between Lin, the founder of Yoozoo, and Xu, which led to Lin handing over control of business operations to other executives. Allegedly, Xu began plotting a sinister plan.

Some sources claim that Xu established a company in Japan to obtain dangerous substances, which he then tested on animals. To deceive Lin, Xu disguised these substances as probiotic pills and gave them to him.

After taking the pills, Lin felt unwell and admitted himself to the hospital. Initially, his condition seemed stable, but it took a sudden turn for the worse. Tragically, he passed away 10 days later on Christmas Day 2020, at the young age of 39. At the time, Lin was estimated to have a net worth of approximately 6.8 billion yuan (£745 million; $941 million), according to the Hurun China Rich List.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that four other individuals fell ill after consuming poisoned beverages in the Yoozoo office. Fortunately, they managed to survive.

China's gaming and technology industries were left in shock by his untimely demise, leading to widespread speculation. Surprisingly, it took several years for the complete details to surface, even though Xu had been detained shortly after.

Prepare to be captivated by the upcoming Netflix sensation, the 'unfilmable' Chinese sci-fi novel, The Three-Body Problem. This masterpiece, written by acclaimed Chinese author Liu Cixin, is the first installment of the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy. Since its initial publication in Chinese, the novel has been translated into nearly 30 languages, captivating readers worldwide.

Since its release on 21 March, the Netflix series "3 Body Problem" has quickly become a global sensation, garnering 11 million views in just four days. This achievement solidifies its position as one of Netflix's most-watched shows, thanks to its gripping storyline and exceptional production quality.

The show's massive budget of $160 million has caught the attention of industry insiders, making it one of Netflix's most expensive projects to date. With eight episodes, the series promises an immersive experience for viewers.

Led by the creators of "Game of Thrones," David Benioff and D.B. Weis, and with the author of the original book, Mr. Liu, involved in the production, the show boasts a talented team of creators. The late Mr. Lin is also posthumously credited as an executive producer, adding a poignant touch to the series.

As "3 Body Problem" continues to captivate audiences and break records, it's clear that this series is a true gem in Netflix's lineup, offering a groundbreaking and unforgettable viewing experience.
