The recall was prompted after it was discovered that the almond-containing product was mistakenly distributed without proper labeling, due to a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and labeling processes.
Atwater’s, a beloved bakery based in Baltimore, MD, is recalling its clam shell packages of spider web tarts sold on October 19 and 20, 2024, due to the presence of undeclared almond flour. This oversight poses a serious risk for individuals with tree nut allergies, potentially leading to severe or life-threatening allergic reactions.
The affected spider web tarts were sold at various farmers markets throughout the MD/DC/VA area, including Arlington Courthouse, Falls Church, H Street, Mount Pleasant, Silver Spring, Dupont Circle, Greenbelt, and Westover. Each tart is packaged in a clear plastic clam shell labeled with a green Atwater’s "Spider Web Tart" tag on top and a Julian date of 292 on the bottom.
Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue, and the tarts were not sold in retail stores. The recall was prompted after it was discovered that the almond-containing product was mistakenly distributed without proper labeling, due to a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and labeling processes.
Consumers who purchased the spider web tarts on the specified dates are urged to return the product for a refund. For assistance, customers can contact Atwater’s directly by calling 410-644-3435 or emailing info@atwatersfood.com. The customer service team is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
Stay safe and check your pantry if you bought these delightful tarts during the mentioned dates!
