Years ago, I used to work for a government contracting firm, the working environment was wonderful, laid back and family friendly. Our dress code was business casual and usually on Fridays we got to wear jeans.
There was a certain day I couldn’t finish a hairdo the night (believe me, no fault of mine) before and had to put on a scarf to work. As soon as I entered the office, my superiors had sent emails to my supervisor demanding an explanation for disobeying the office dress code. My supervisor pulled me aside and presented the problem. With heavy embarrassment, I had to untie my scarf to explain what happened.
What puzzled me is the strong loathing towards scarfs in the workplace. Who decided head scarves where bad for our office dress codes? Does wearing scarves influence our productivity for bad or good or do they give bad vibes in business meeting/presentations?
Unfortunately, there is no helpful information available on head scarves in the workplace and therefore, I have no choice but to leave it at that.
